In different regions of Ukraine the traditions and culture are different. So if in the central and eastern parts of the country dominated by the true Ukrainian culture, inherited from the times of Kievan Rus, the western part of Ukraine, there is considerable influence in Poland and Austria. The southern part of Ukraine inherited the Turkish tradition. These differences are inextricably linked to Ukrainian history.

The first written works have appeared in Ukraine in 885, when the creators of the Slavic alphabet Cyril and Methodius translated the Bible into Slavic. Until the 19-th century in Ukraine, there were no works of literature than religious.

Reading and writing could only clerics and the scribe (the people who possessed a great honor and respect in the society at that time).

Ivan Kotlyarevsky, Taras Shevchenko, Panteleimon Kulish, Markiyan Shashkevych, Ivan Franko, Marco Vovchok, Lesya Ukrainka, Michael Kotsjubinsky and other writers worked in 19 and 20 centuries.
