Kiev - the capital of Ukraine.

Kiev - the capital of Ukraine and the historic center for all the Eastern Slavs. Countries such as Ukraine, Russia and Belarus were founded Kievan princes in those days, when they were called Kievan Rus. Therefore, Kiev is one of the oldest cities in the East Slavic culture.
Kiev celebrated its 1500th anniversary not so long ago, in 1982.
In ancient legend, Kiev was founded by three brothers Kiy, Shchek and Khoriv, and their sister, Lybed. They were traveling along the river Dnieper in a boat and were attracted by the beautiful hills rising above the river. They landed and founded a town.
Nowadays Kiev is a largest European cities. The population of the city is about four millions. It is the main administrative, industrial, political, scientific, cultural and transport center of the country.
Travelers and tourists have a lot to see in Kyiv. There is lot of theatres, museums, libraries and cinemas there. In summer you can make a fascinating tourist cruise on one of the most beautiful rivers Dnieper. You can contemplate the historical sights from aboard a comfortable river boat.
Of all the city's historical monuments the most ancient is the Golden Gate. It is the now reconstructed remnants of the ancient watch-tower that guarded the entry into the city and served as a tollgate. Numerous churches remind the visitor that Kiev has always been the center of Slavonic culture and the Orthodox Church. Among them one should mention St. Vladimir's Cathedral, Sophia's Cathedral, St. Andrew's Church and Pecherskaya Lavra which originally was a cave monastery.
